Priorities
In America today, We the People live in a time and place where states rule that children may carry firearms unsupervised out in public and may not read books in public schools or libraries that deal with race and gender issues.
The conservatives that are mostly responsible for these warped civic priorities insist that they are serving their constituents by protecting them from “woke mobs.” And when Republicans run for office, they always try to scare enough voters into electing them to lead us all with horror stories about open borders for caravans of migrant foreigners to take over American suburbs, have mandatory drag shows in schools, ban the Pledge of Allegiance, wage wars on Christmas, and force feed free lunches of roasted abortions with communist after-parties at taxpayers’ expense, or something. Whatever. The beauty of it is that it can mean almost anything to anyone at any time.
Anyway, it is harder to understand what “woke” means than to recognize what it isn’t. For example, we never see woke mobs at the megachurch or the gun range or in the Chik Fil A drive-thru with long rifles in the gun racks of their pickup trucks. Which is a real shame, since the shallow suburban patriots seem very happy in their drive-thru world while the scary woke mob seems quite willing to pay them as little attention as necessary.
