The Future is Unwritten
A lazy parade of polling stories speculating ad nauseam about a Republican midterm electoral sweep of federal legislative leadership relentlessly occupies way too many timelines going around as “news.” In fact, the matter of whether or not Republicans may prevail in November’s elections answers none of the essential elements of genuinely ethical journalism; the who-what-when-where-why-how of news reporting. Except perhaps any question into the influence of self-fulfilling prophesies.
This cheap prophesy is bullshit. As one valuable old political cliche goes, “only one poll matters.” The fact remains, as long as every vote is still counted (and the Electoral College does not factor into Congressional midterm elections), we do not have to quietly accept this cheap prophetic narrative as any foregone conclusion. Remember, the Republican Party now has no political platform. The only thing the American political right has to work with is scapegoating their “woke” fellow Americans for any number of phony problems, like widespread voter fraud compromising electoral integrity, post-grad critical race theory being taught in primary schools, and liberal elites grooming public schoolchildren as sexual playthings.
