The only correct answer to the question "Is it OK to be white?" should be "What do you mean by 'white'?" Because, as a demographic, "white" is somewhere between expedient and lazy. But as an identity, 'white' is definitely racist. For example, pick a random "white" American and ask them where their family came from. They will likely be able to give you an answer along the lines of one set of grandparents from Italy and another set of mixed German and Irish. Ask a random Black American where their family came to the US from and it's alot tougher to know, mainly because their ancestors were likely kidnapped and brought here against their will. There is probably a better way to collect and analyze demographic data but who would really want to draw up that market research survey or census form? All this having been said, Adams definitely bears the entire responsibility for the consequences of his cruel and stupid answer.
